USP <800> Airflow Visualization for Hazardous-Drug Areas

USP <800> addresses handling of hazardous drugs. Fog can reveal apparent air movement at doors, pass-throughs, hoods and room boundaries, but it does not directly quantify containment or worker exposure.

The containment question

The study should ask whether airflow direction and local behavior support the containment strategy during representative activities. Differential pressure, exhaust performance and other quantitative parameters require calibrated measurements in addition to visualization.

Safety and contamination control

Do not introduce LN₂ fog into a hazardous-drug area until EHS, pharmacy, facilities and infection-control owners approve the tracer, water quality, cleaning approach, ODH controls and equipment placement. Fog visualization does not replace industrial hygiene or containment verification.
